Gallery FAQs

Is exhibiting in the gallery free?
No.  It costs $1,750 (inc GST) to exhibit in the gallery.
Exhibitions are held for a month. A $400 non-refundable deposit is required to ensure booking and locks the artist into an agreed date. The remaining balance is payable three months before installation.

Price includes:

-          400 colour DL fliers professionally printed for invitations

-          advertising on MLS and That’s Melbourne websites

-          line listing in the Art Almanac

-          half page colour ad in the Art Gallery Guide Australia

How big is the Gallery space?
The main part of the Gallery is 17m long by 3.5m tall. An additional wall to the side of the toilet entrance is approx 3.5m by 3.5m.
The space also houses an upright piano which is available for public use during specified hours.

What tools are available to help with installation and de-installation?
We have on hand:

- Platform ladder

- cordless drill

- sprit level

- electric sander (for de-install)

- putty (for de-install)

- paint roller, brushes and paint (for de-install)

Artist needs to bring:

- correct sized screws

Please don't use those little sticky velcro dots, nothing is more difficult to get off the wall afterwards!

What can the space be used for?
The exhibiting artist is free to do pretty much whatever they want with the space, provided:

- It's safe (this includes not blocking the fire escape)

- They understand that anything not locked down *might* go walking (though this has never happened)

- About half the gallery floor (closest to the piano) is available for seating at our Acoustica performances.
This is negotiable depending on the vision, I might be able to dot chairs around etc.

Can I have an Opening Night?

The Gallery space is available for each exhibitor for an opening night - the space is only available during Library Opening hours and prefereably cleanup and rubbish removal must be completed before the library closes in the evening.  All catering, alcohol, setup and cleanup must be organised by the exhibitor. We have a number of tables that we can set up to accommodate both. Please serve last drinks no later than 7.30pm as this ensures the event is finished by 8pm. Music is also fine for the opening, just so long as it's not hard rocking 'we can't hear the phones downstairs' music.

Can I give an 'Artist Talk'?
If an artisit would like to do an advertised talk (or two) at any stage during their exhibition, we'd love them to. A sit down talk may be dependant on Seminar Room availability.
